The story

Hi, my name is Andrej (founder). I am an IT guy and I have dry eyes. After some reading, I found out that one of the major cause of this disease is the low blink rate. A lot of people blink considerably less in front of the computer screen. Blink rate is related to cognitive processes; when we are focused we blink less. Other reasons are the extensive light of the screen compared to the room light or air conditioning, contact lenses, Lasik etc.

As an IT guy specialized in computer vision, I had an idea to detect my blinks with camera in order to monitor them and increase my blink rate. And that is how the first idea about Eyeblink came to life in 2010. Since that time a lot of friends (Maruska, Shane, Lucia, Michal, Talbot, Marta, Marek, Tomas, Martin, Andrej, Peter,...) have helped him to create this app, website, promotional video, etc. During my PhD. studies at Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, a lot of my students (bachelor thesis, team project, professional practice) helped me. After 3 years with no major success in object class detection, I changed my Ph.D. thesis to my hobby, the blink detection. I have published two A-class journal papers about blink detection and successfully defended my thesis in May 2018. Now I work on Eyeblink besides my regular job. I am open for cooperations.
